MALAY, Aklan – This town’s police chief, Lieutenant Colonel Don Dicksie De Dios, urged the local government to tighten measures on the entry of minors in night bars.

An intoxicated 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by five men in Boracay Island recently. The girl reportedly had too much to drink in a night bar.

“Nakapasok sa isang bar ang minor. May nakilalang mga lalaki, nagkainuman. Nalasing siya. Mag-isa ang bata nakapasok sa bar. Tumakas sa kanila habang natutulog ang nanay,” the police official told the Sangguniang Bayan of Malay.

De Dios urged bars and restaurants in Boracay Island to stop dispensing alcoholic beverages to minors and to tighten the screening of people entering.

For his part, town councilor Dante Pagsuguiron said they will revisit the existing municipal ordinance, especially to impose stiffer penalties on establishments violating it.

Minors below 18 years old are still prohibited from straying, wandering or loitering outside their houses  between 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. in the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Meanwhile, the Malay police station revealed that sexual abuses among women and girls remain high during the government-imposed lockdown last year. There were 10 cases.

They were sexually assaulted by family members or relatives inside their homes, the police said./PN
