KALIBO, Aklan – The municipal government of Malay, Aklan is offering financial rewards to those who will capture stray dogs and cats in the world-class Boracay Island.

These stray animals continue to roam the streets and beaches of the island, causing health hazards to tourists and residents.
Acting mayor Frolibar Bautista said volunteers will be paid P200 for catching a stray dog and P50 for a stray cat. He has also established a task force to manage these captured animals.
Under Municipal Ordinance No. 92, stray animals found roaming freely in the beaches and other public places of Boracay should be caught, impounded or disposed by authorized agents or barangay officials.

The mayor said he will strengthen the implementation of the existing municipal ordinance and intensify rabies vaccination. He also encouraged pet owners to be responsible.

The catcher teams are doing rounds in a bid to reduce the number of stray dogs and cats in the island.
The captured animals are impounded at a sanitary landfill in mainland Malay. (With a report from Akean Forum/PN)s
