Malay TRO: Report erring Boracay e-trike drivers

BORACAY – Residents and tourists are encouraged to report immediately to the Malay Transportation Office (MTRO) erring drivers of electric tricycle (e-trike) in Boracay Island.

At least 10 complaints from residents were reported in February, mostly for non-conveyance of passengers to their designated designations.

MTRO acting Chief Ryan Tubi said the complaints were speedily acted upon.  Penalties were imposed on violators to promote discipline and order among the motorists.

ā€œMost of the complaints are from the residents denied to board because the number of tourists on the island has increased,ā€ he added.

Currently, there are 448 e-trikes plying the routes in the barangays of Yapak, Manocmanoc and Balabag.

With the ongoing pandemic, only six passengers are allowed in e-trikes, while multi-cabs should maintain a 70 percent capacity or a maximum of nine passengers. The minimum regular fare is P15 at the flat road.

Tubi has reminded the commuters to report their complaints at the MTRO Facebook page or call hotline 09497035570 and 036-2882385 or at Boracay Land Transportation Multi-Purpose Cooperative (BLTMPC) hotline 09399015976 or 036-2883271.

MTRO also has seven enforcers augmented by Municipal Auxiliary Police to enforce traffic regulations and guidelines. Road clearing and apprehension of vehicles for non-compliance with municipal transportation ordinances are also ongoing.

ā€œWhen there is a complaint from BLTPMC members received by MTRO, we also endorse the BLTMPC to discipline their e-trike drivers,ā€ Tubi stressed./PN
