PANDAN, Antique — A total of 44 marathoners finished the Malumpati Eco-Run 2.0 last Sunday, April 23 in Pandan, Province of Antique.
Of these, three were from Dumangas, Iloilo: Marbert Celiz (21 years old, who placed 5th), Ss James Maguillo (28, who placed 12th), and Rady Divinagracia (45, who finished 16th).
The marathon’s start gun was fired at 3:49 a.m., and some of the finishers reached the finish line just before noon.
The second iteration of the eco-run which was established in 2019 by the Pandan Bay Institute Batch 2000 alumni also included a half-marathon, participated by 70; 10K run with 101 runners, and the 3K fun run with 61 participants.
The half-marathon (ran with a four-hour limit) started at 5 a.m., while the 10K and 3K runs started at 5:30 a.m. and 5:45 a.m., respectively.
The Malumpati Run, a featured activity of Pandan’s Tugbong Festival, boasted of scenic routes that showcased the best of the town’s natural topography including the beaches of Pandan Bay, the Guia River (with a unique hanging bridge), and some slight elevations which created a challenging terrain for runners.
Race director Jennifer “Troy” Tiplan, himself a passionate runner, recalled that the inspiration for the eco-run is the natural beauty of Pandan. Atty. Isagani Dionela is this year’s project head.
Sponsored in part by Ma. Elena de Asis-Ner, Sharon Dormitorio, Rock Drilon, and Eduardo Doromal, the Dumangas runners were organized by writer and occasional long distance runner Peter Solis Nery, who only ran the 10K in Malumpati because of a foot injury in the beginning of the April.
Winners of the 42K (male) category are: Joebert Elmaguin, 1st; Renero Edano, 2nd; and Jun Ramires, 3rd.
For 42K (female), Jennylyn Nobleza won 1st; Hermily Donasco, 2nd; and Charisma Brinkerhoff, 3rd.
Winners in 21K (male) are: Jasten Sajonia, 1st; Jason Apolinario, 2nd; and Jero Matheus Jaro, 3rd.
For the 21K (female), Angie Alejo won 1st; Pearlie Joy Fajanil, 2nd; and Jocelyn Alejo, 3rd.
In 10K (male): Ramonito Cualbar, 1st; Neil John Villanueva Lacerdo, 2nd; and Alron John Samillano.
While in the 10K (female): Rodela Salibio Aros, 1st; EMS Corener, 2nd; and Jee Marie Osorio, 3rd.
In 3K (male): Allen Candari, 1st; Laurence Caminoy, 2nd; and Joey Domenden, 3rd.
And in 3K (female): Maria Flora Bautista, 1st; Anyag U. Dionela, 2nd; and Jonalyn Ambubuyog, 3rd./PN
