ROXAS City – Mambusao, Capiz has been declared “drug-free.”
Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Councils (BADACs) in all 26 barangays have passed resolutions declaring their villages free from illegal drugs, said Inspector Edwin Luces, municipal police chief.
The Municipal ADAC led by Mayor Leodegario Labao Jr. used these resolutions as basis in the town-wide declaration, Luces said in a radio interview.
Mambusao was the first town in Capiz to be declared drug-free, said Senior Superintendent Samuel Nacion, provincial police director.
But Nacion said they were still waiting for the official documents for such declaration.
“What is laudable in Mambusao is that the mayor himself is leading the activities in curbing illegal drug activities,” he said.
Despite the declaration, police and their barangay auxiliaries will continue to monitor drug activities in the town.
Self-confessed drug users and/or pushers in Mambusao had undergone drug awareness seminars, reform program and livelihood training.
Labao also provided livelihood assistance to “ASTIG,” an organized group of drug surrenderees, said Luces. (PIA/PN)
