KALIBO, Aklan – Former mayor Antonio Maming Sr. of Banga, Aklan already expressed intent to run for mayor of this capital town in the 2019 mid-term election.
Maming, who ran for governor in 2016 but lost to Florencio Miraflores, moved to Kalibo as registered voter in March last year.
He made known his plan to seek the mayoral post after his recent meeting with Governor Miraflores and former Aklan representative Teodorico Haresco Jr. in Tangalan town.
Maming said he will have to face likely shoo-ins if the election is held today.
The names of former Kalibo mayor Raymar Rebaldo and Vice Gov. Reynaldo Quimpo have cropped up as possible bets.
Municipal Engineer Emerson Lachica also reportedly considers taking over the post currently occupied by his elder brother William.
Mayor William Lachica is now on his third and final term and thus can no longer seek re-election in 2019. He is expected to challenge Miraflores for the gubernatorial post.
It was learned that three-termer Vice Mayor Madeline Ang-Regalado may also run for mayor and would have Sangguniang Bayan member Cynthia Dela Cruz as running mate.
Maming said he has yet to name the vice mayor and councilors in his lineup.
If elected, Maming would be the first mayor of Kalibo to have served another town in Aklan, having been the local chief executive of Banga from 2007 to 2013. (With Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
