BACOLOD City – A 33-year-old tricycle driver was shot dead by two unidentified riding-in-tandem assailants in Barangay Mambulac, Silay City, Negros Occidental.
Police identified the fatality as resident Jesus Pason Jr.
The incident happened around 12:55 p.m. on April 15.
According to the Silay City police, Pason was driving his tricycle when attacked.
The victim was with passenger Sofia Delos Santos, 55, that time, police said.
Delos Santos told the police she suddenly heard a gunshot. Pason then lost control of the vehicle.
They bumped into a pile of sand along the road. She found the driver already unconscious, she said.
The passenger also saw an orange motorcycle fleeing the crime scene.
Pason was rushed to the city’s Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital. The attending physician pronounced him dead around 2:15 p.m.
Police recovered an empty shell of a .45-caliber pistol in the crime scene. Investigation was ongoing.
In a social media post, militant group Karapatan Negros Island claimed that Pason was a member of Pasil Homeowners Association Inc. and Kadamay Negros.
“We share the anger and sorrow of his family. We are enraged by this killing of Jesus Pason. We strongly condemn this ceaseless killing in Negros Island,” Karapatan wrote./PN
