ILOILO City – A man charged with frustrated murder was arrested yesterday in Barangay Simon Ledesma, Jaro.

The 29-year-old Stephen John Quibin was detained at the district police station.

Quibin, who claimed to be a security guard, insisted he was just trying to protect himself from someone he identified only as “Bernie.”

Officers served him a warrant of arrest around 8 a.m., a police report showed.

“Bernie wounded me with a knife,” Quibin said. “I grabbed the knife from him and stabbed him on the hand.”

It was not immediately clear when the stabbing happened and what prompted it or who exactly “Bernie” was. The suspect himself had a vague recollection of the incident.

Quibin added that he was willing to face his charge, believing that what he did was nothing but self-defense.

Presiding Judge Ma. Yolanda Panaguiton-Gaviño of the Regional Trail Court Branch 34 issued the warrant and set the bail bond at P200,000./PN
