ILOILO – A 36-year-old man was shot to death by the husband of his online chatmate on Thursday night, December 19, in Sitio Ilawod, Barangay Poblacion, Barotac Viejo town.

Rodel Juele Ambo, a laborer and resident of the town’s Sitio Sambag, Barangay Nueva Sevilla, sustained a severe gunshot wound on his head. He was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

Barotac Viejo police said the suspect identified as Tre-ar Jalandoni Sebugan, 37, a security guard residing in Sitio Ilawod, was still at large as of this writing.

Initial investigation by the Barotac Viejo Municipal Police Station revealed that Ambo and the suspect’s wife were connected through Facebook and had exchanged private messages. Sebugan, however, discovered their “online affair” after accessing his wife’s cell phone.

Posing as his wife, Sebugan reportedly continued the conversation to lure Ambo into meeting her. Unaware of the setup, the victim went to the couple’s residence. Upon arrival, he was met with a fatal gunshot to the head from a 12-gauge shotgun.

Police were exploring a love triangle as the primary motive behind the crime.

Authorities also urge the public to come forward with any information that may aid in apprehending the suspect./PN
