BACOLOD City — A 28-year-old resident of Manapla town died after having his teeth extracted by a faith healer. The faith healer is facing homicide charges.
Jerry Aguirre went to Diosdado Mahilum of Hacienda Busay, Barangay Punta Mesa, Manapla on Aug. 1 to have his teeth pulled out.
That same day, he went to Manila, and then went back on Aug. 11, said Senior Inspector Edencio Gregorio, Manapla police chief.
Aguirre again had his teeth extracted on Aug. 15. After which, he had become very weak, his sister, Joane dela Cruz, said.
On Aug. 19, Aguirre was found dead on his bed.
A total of five teeth were extracted from Aguirre, according to Gregorio.
He died of septic embolism secondary to dental infection, according to Dr. Eriberto Jaime, municipal health officer of Manapla.
Dela Cruz will file homicide charges against Mahilum.
Gregorio said he was waiting for Aguirre’s family to visit their office to subscribe their statements.
Dela Cruz said she thought her brother went to a doctor. It turned out that he sought a faith healer’s help instead.
It was learned that a certain “Teloy” recommended Mahilum to Aguirre.
Someone also told Aguirre to go to the nearby Cadiz District Hospital to have his teeth extracted for only P100.
Mahilum admitted that it was his first time to extract teeth from a person. He said he usually performs rituals and prayers on his patients. He also asked forgiveness from the victim’s family. (With a report from abs-cbnnews.com/PN)
