AKLAN — A man was declared dead on arrival at the hospital after being hacked by his own cousin yesterday morning, October 7, in Barangay Mobo, Kalibo in this province.
The victim identified as Jameson De Juan, 53, a resident of the said place, succumbed to multiple hack wounds.
According to reports, De Juan was peeling coconuts when the suspect, Dante Santos, 51, also of the said barangay, suddenly grabbed the bolo from him and hacked him multiple times in various parts of the body, particularly the neck and head.
It was also learned that Santos chased after the victim’s aunt and uncle before fleeing the scene.
Initial information suggests that the suspect may have been mentally unstable at the time of the attack.
Following this, the suspect also attempted to assault a man on a motorcycle. The man, out of fear, abandoned his motorcycle and ran to safety.
Santos was later seen running into a dense area in Barangay Aliputos, Numancia town, where he briefly hid.
Officers of the Numancia Municipal Police Station (MPS) responded after receiving a call from the Kalibo police regarding the incident.
The suspect, armed with two bolos, voluntarily surrendered to the Numancia police and was later turned over to the Kalibo MPS.
The Kalibo police was conducting further investigations into the incident as of this writing./PN
