Man killed in motorcycle-truck crash

ILOILO City – A man was declared dead on arrival at the West Visayas State University Medical Center (WVSUMC) after being hit by an 18-wheeler truck around 11:00 p.m. of September 7 in coastal road at the boundary of barangays Ticud and San Isidro in La Paz district.

The victim was identified as Renato “Tingting” Bañola, 21, and a resident of Relocation Site, Brgy. Ingore, La Paz.

Meanwhile, the driver of the truck was identified as Zandro Salvador, 40, of Guimaras.

In an interview with Police Master Sergeant Lougene Alarcon, traffic investigator, he said the victim was riding his motorcycle and suddenly took a u-turn, grabbing the lane of the truck.

Alarcon added that Salvador tried to hit the brake but still hit Bañola, who suffered a fatal head injury.

The truck driver surrendered to the La Paz Police Station while the victim’s family and the owner of the prime mover 18-wheeler truck were set to settle the incident./PN
