Man plunges to his death in a mall

BACOLOD City – A 30-year-old man jumped to his death from the fourth floor of a shopping mall here.

Shoppers and employees of nearby stores told police they watched in horror as the man calmly climbed a railing at the mall’s fourth level about 3:40 p.m. on Feb. 23 then jumped head first.

Police Lieutenant Joven Mogato, Police Station 2 chief, withheld the name of the man from Barangay Sum-ag.

He was apparently alone at the mall, said Mogato.

Guards and emergency responders tended the man until an ambulance arrived. He was pronounced dead at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital over a half-hour later.

A suicide note was recovered from the man’s pocket. He asked for forgiveness from his loved ones.

Also recovered was the man’s cellular phone and P500.

Mogato said they have yet to talk to the man’s family.

The mall’s management, on the other hand, has yet to issue a statement on the incident./PN
