ILOILO City — Allegedly suffering from nervous breakdown, a man indiscriminately shot two people yesterday in Barangay Tacas, Jaro district.

One of the victims, 47-year-old Nida Galo, died. She succumbed to a gunshot wound in the head.

The other, 32-year-old Aries Escuadro, sustained a gunshot wound in the stomach. He was confined in West Visayas State University Medical Center.

Galo and Escuadro were sitting in front of the former’s house at about 10 a.m. when the suspect, 34-year-old Rene Jaculino, also of Tacas village, passed by, said Senior Insp. Herbert Ballego, Jaro police chief.

Jaculino suddenly drew out a .45-caliber pistol from his waist and fired at the two.

“The victims did not expect that the suspect was armed,” Ballego said.

Three empty shells were recovered from the crime scene.

Jaculino was arrested. He was reportedly unable to sleep in the past two days.

Homicide and frustrated homicide charges will be filed against him./PN
