ILOILO – A motorcycle-riding man died in a shooting incident in Barangay Libot, Calinog town yesterday morning.

The 48-year-old Joseph Sonza, a resident of the village, sustained multiple gunshot wounds on his left upper chest, left back and mouth.

Personnel of the Calinog Search and Rescue team brought the victim to Dr. Ricardo S. Provido Sr. Memorial District Hospital but he was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician, Dr. Ann Losañes.

Calinog police investigation revealed that Sonza was driving his motorcycle with his wife and minor son as backriders when he was shot by two unidentified gunmen around 8:20 a.m.

The gunmen immediately fled on a motorcycle, police added.

Recovered at the crime scene were five fired cartridge cases compatible with caliber .45 firearm.

Officers of the Calinog Municipal Police Station were still trying to determine the motive and the identity of the gunmen as of this writing./PN
