BACOLOD City – A man was stabbed dead by two drinking mates around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday – while his granddaughter was able to escape – in Sitio Binalbagan, Barangay Masulog, La Castellana town in Negros Occidental.

Police identified the victim as Elramie Villanueva Lamis, 48, a resident of Sitio Binalbagan in Barangay Masulog, mountainous area.

Police identified Regie Aquillos Necesito, 32, married, also a resident of town, as one of the suspects. Police have yet to identify his companion in the killing, as they immediately fled from the crime scene.

The victim was said to be on a drinking spree at the store of Susan Calago Legaspi together with three companions, namely Moroy Necesito, Richard Calago, and Rodrigo Sedon, all residents of same barangay.

After an hour, Moroy, Richard, Rodrigo and the one unidentified suspect went home while the said victim was left behind together with his granddaughter identified as Elfa Marie Teodosio, who witnessed the crime.

At around 8 p.m. in the evening, the victim and his granddaughter headed home.

About 200 meters from the store, the victim and his granddaughter were surprised when the two suspects jumped out from behind thick sugarcane stalks of a plantation and approached them.

Regie Necesito allegedly struck the right side of the victim’s face several times with a large rock.  Regie’s unidentified companion then stabbed Lamis in the chest.

The granddaughter managed to flee the scene unscathed, running towards the nearby house of a certain Rodrigo Sedon to ask for help.

The victim’s cadaver was found the following day about 6 a.m. Sunday by Richard Calago, who immediately informed barangay officials and reported the incident to police.

Police are still investigating the motive for the incident./PN
