Man survives shooting

ILOILO City – A man survived an attempt on his life in Barangay Rizal Estanzuela, City Proper district yesterday morning.

The 60-year-old Jessie Gasis sustained gunshot wounds on his neck, right side of the nose and leg. He is now in stable condition at a hospital.

According to Police Captain Roque Gimeno III, chief of Iloilo City Police Station 1 (ICPS1), the suspect was identified as the victim’s friend, Charlie Layson.

The ICPS1 has launched a hot pursuit operation against the suspect, who fled after the incident.

Residents told the police they heard six gunshots around 9:10 a.m.

Prior to the shooting incident, police said the victim and the suspect were seen drinking together on Thursday night, Feb. 22.

Police investigation further revealed that the victim was previously imprisoned for a drug-related case. Since he was released from jail in 2015, he has no record with the police.

As of this writing, the police have not established a motive yet in the shooting. Investigation was ongoing./PN
