ILOILO City – A man tried to grab a policeman’s service firearm in Barangay Alaguisoc, Jordan, Guimaras and ended up with a gunshot wound on a knee.
The 33-year-old Jaime Santoceldes of Sibalom, Antique was taken to the Guimaras provincial hospital.
Santoceldes flagged down a motorcycle-driving Police Officer 2 Bernie Sequio around 4 p.m. Friday last week.
Thinking that Santoceldes needed assistance, Sequio stopped.
Santoceldes immediately tried to grab the policeman’s service firearm, a .9mm pistol.
Grappling ensued.
The gun went off, hitting Santoceldes on the left knee.
“We don’t know why he wanted to disarm our police officer. We are conducting an investigation. This man is not a native of Guimaras,” said Senior Superintendent Ricardo De La Paz, provincial police director.
Santoceldes will be charged with “direct assault upon an agent in authority”, said De La Paz./PN
