ILOILO – The lifeless body of a man was discovered floating in the river in Barangay Cari Mayor, Leganes, Iloilo early Friday morning, December 20.
According to Captain General Enrique Robles, chief of the Leganes Municipal Police Station, the victim identified as alias “Palong” was a resident of Barangay Nabitasan. He was often seen intoxicated in the barangay, typically returning home late at night.
Robles said that further investigation showed that Palong frequently crossed the river to travel between Cari Mayor and Nabitasan. It is believed that he slipped and fell into the water while attempting to cross the river on Thursday night.
Strong currents, caused by heavy rain in the area, likely swept him away, he added.
Police confirmed that the victim’s body had been claimed by his family./PN
