SAN JOSE, Antique – Several major infrastructure projects included in the Regional Development Plan (RDP) will benefit Antique, according to National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) undersecretary Adoracion Navarro.
“Many of the major infrastructure projects are relevant to the province of Antique,” said Navarro during the 2017-2022 Western Visayas RDP Roadshow recently held in this capital town.
Among these projects are roads that will link production hubs to tourism areas, port construction and improvement, upgrading of tertiary hospitals, and development of tourism destinations, farm consolidation centers, and evacuation and disaster command centers.
Navarro in an interview underscored the importance of building connectivity among communities and growth centers and reducing vulnerability of communities to disasters.
She added that local investors – including returning overseas Filipino workers – can also play an important role in the development of Antique.
Western Visayas is the fastest growing region in Visayas and the fourth fastest outside Metro Manila, according to Navarro.
But Navarro said local officials, government agencies, nongovernment organizations, and other stakeholders must work together to make the region more progressive. (With a report from Pilar Mabaquiao/PIA/PN)
