MANILA – Mapua University Lady Cardinals vented its ire on Emilio Aguinaldo College Lady Generals with a 21-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-22 beating in the NCAA Season 95 Women’s Volleyball on Jan. 20 at the San Juan Arena.
Lorraine Barias delivered 20 points to go along with 28 excellent digs while also scoring crucial hits down the stretch that thwarted the comeback hopes of the Lady Generals to even out their record at 1-1.
Angeline Marie Magundayao contributed 10 points, Ilongga Princess Babiera and Jonina Fernandez managed nine markers apiece, while Carla Gaudan pumped eight to add for the Lady Cardinals.
Leading by as much as seven points in the fourth set at 17-10, the Lady Cardinals saw its lead reduced to 23-21 after the offensive exploits of Lady Generals’ Krizzia Reyes. However, Barias was able to counter with her own form of volleys to seal the deal for Mapua.
“Masaya kami na nakuha ‘tong unang panalo. Before the game, sinabihan naman namin sila na must win tayo sa game na ‘to and kailangan nating manalo talaga, at kailangan nating maibangon ang Mapua ngayon,” Mapua assistant coach Romnick Rico said.
Reyes bannered the Lady Generals with 19 points, while Cathrine Almazan managed to contribute 11 markers in a losing cause. Kristine Mara and Jamaica Villena also tallied eight and seven markers, respectively.
It was the Lady Generals’ second consecutive defeat of the season, as they have also lost their 12 previous matches dating back to Season 93./PN
