Mapúa’s fully online programs broaden learning opportunities for Filipino students

Virtual classrooms and distance learning is the norm not only due to the Coronavirus 2019
(COVID-19) pandemic, but due to the ongoing democratization of education caused by
technological advancements.

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) earlier said that learning should not stop amid
the pandemic. In fact, the government agency reached out to higher education institutions (HEIs)
to promote online education and develop online learning platforms.

A leader in online education with strong digital capabilities in place even before the pandemic
started, Mapúa University broadens learning opportunities for students with its expanded
academic offerings. Mapúa introduces its fully online bachelor’s degree programs in engineering
and information technology.

With its Commission on Higher Education (CHED)-approved fully online bachelor’s degree
programs in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Industrial
Engineering, Computer Science, and Information Technology, incoming freshmen are given the
choice to learn “anytime, anywhere” without the constraints of geography and time.

These programs are designed to have asynchronous teaching and learning activities, wherein no
real-time interaction is required among students. Learners access content and coursework at a
time that best suits their schedule. The only time consideration in an online program is in the
deadlines of submission of assessment tasks and in the school’s academic calendar.

Ensuring convenience and accessibility of its instruction, Mapúa facilitates learning in fully
online programs with powerful educational technology tools and vast and up-to-date online
learning resources through its very own learning management system, Cardinal EDGE.

The flexibility that the fully online programs afford learners make them a viable option for those
who are remotely in the provinces, individuals who were not able to complete their college
degree and would like to do so while continuing to work, and professionals who are seeking
another degree in order to shift or advance in their careers.

Furthermore, despite the remote setup in fully online programs, Mapúa provides student support
services through life coaches to guide and assist learners throughout their academic and student
life. Life coaches will act as advisers to students on matters related to their fully online studies,

such as academic advising and enrollment, career advising and placement opportunities, goal
setting, time management and social skills coaching, and other transactions with the University.
The fully online programs follow Mapúa’s quarter system, and students may apply and enroll at
any quarter in the academic year.
