MANILA – The government “might take some time” before it could complete its rehabilitation of Marawi City three years after its liberation from terrorists, President Rodrigo Duterte said.
“The problem is about the Marawi community itself, hindi sa gobyerno. The money is there, do not worry and we will continue to spend until such time that Marawi is rebuilt to its former glory,” said Duterte. “It might take some time before we can really reach the ideal place that you’d call home.”
Duterte also reacted over complaints of Moro Consensus Group claiming many residents continue to suffer three years after the city was declared liberated from Islamic State-inspired fighters.
“Itong mga tao na nagrereklamo, sabi there is no liberation of Marawi yet. Look, government liberated Marawi not from the people of Marawi, we do not do that and we never did it. We liberated Marawi against the terrorist Maute, pati iyong ISIS,” Duterte said.
Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, meanwhile, said the government is still within target of completing the Marawi rehabilitation by December 2021./PN
