Marijuana found in Bago City

BACOLOD City — Authorities have discovered about 50 full-grown marijuana plants in a “secluded” property in Bago City.

A military unit on routine patrol found them in Purok Abaca, Sitio Pataan, Brgy. Mailum, on Saturday, said Supt. Arnel Arpon, Bago City police chief.

“They immediately informed the barangay captain, who relayed the information to me. I then sent my men to the area,” Arpon said.

He said the marijuana plants were already full grown, reaching up to six feet in height. Police uprooted them.

“We are still verifying the owner of the land,” which is reportedly covered by the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program, Arpon said.

He said the area was “secluded,” as it was “far from the houses.”

Apparently, there are more: police also discovered what appeared to be a marijuana nursery, said PO3 Arturo Margallo Jr., case investigator.

It was hidden inside a corn plantation, about 20–30 meters from where the full-grown plants were, said Margallo.

He said they found 60 plastic cups planted to marijuana seedlings, 40 newly planted marijuana plants about eight inches high, 100 marijuana seeds and dried marijuana leaves wrapped in newspaper.

All the marijuana were seized and will be subject to a test at the crime laboratory of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office./PN
