ILOILO City – As the rainy season begins, the Regional Maritime Unit (RMU) is taking proactive steps to prepare for potential emergencies.

Colonel Ervin Glenn Provido, director of RMU, announced that maritime properties are being readied for search and rescue operations during typhoons and other natural disasters.

“With the onset of the rainy season and the increased frequency of storms, we must remain alert and ready to assist other agencies if needed,” said Provido.

RMU’s equipment, including speedboats, jet skis, and other protective gear for personnel, are prepared to handle the challenges posed by floods, typhoons, and tropical depressions, he stressed.

The preparations followed the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration’s announcement marking the end of the summer season.

Provido also emphasized the importance of coordination with the Philippine Coast Guard to enhance disaster response capabilities and save lives./PN
