ILOILO – Market vendors and members of the Tricycle Operators and Drivers Associations (TODA) in Alimodian town received financial assistance from the Uswag Ilonggo party-list on Thursday morning, May 30.
The financial assistance coursed through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is seen to alleviate the impact of the El Niño phenomenon and inflation on the lives of market vendors.
For the TODA members, the assistance is intended to help cover the cost of gasoline and provide additional income during these challenging times.
Each of the 230 market vendors received P3,000, while 272 tricycle operators and drivers received P1,000 each.
The distribution was led by Uswag Ilonggo’s Cong. James “Jojo” Ang, Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr., and 2nd District’s Cong. Michael Gorriceta.
They also turned over a new P5-million stage at the Alimodian municipal plaza and a new gymnasium for events and sports.
The three officials also visited Barangay Bagumbayan-Ilajas to lead the groundbreaking for a P9.3-million solar water system project initiated by Gorriceta.
Governor Defensor committed additional funds for the improvement of the public market.
Previously, Defensor allocated P13 million for the market’s enhancement, but recognizing the insufficiency of the initial amount, he promised further financial support.
Mayor Ian Keneth Alfeche expressed gratitude to the Uswag Ilonggo party-list, the Iloilo provincial government, and Representative Gorriceta for their multi-million worth of infrastructure projects in Alimodian./PN
