Masbate native falls in Kalibo drug sting

AKLAN – Operatives of Aklan Police Provincial Office’s Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU) and Kalibo police station nabbed a street-level individual in a drug buy-bust operation in Sitio Lambingan, Barangay Pook, Kalibo town.

Police confiscated two heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing suspected shabu and P3,000 marked money from 31-year old Genesis “Uno” Dela Cruz on Friday evening, June 14.

Aklan PDEU chief Major Frenzy Andrade said the illegal substance came from the province of Capiz.

Dela Cruz, native of Masbate and temporarily staying at Sitio Libtong, Barangay Estancia Kalibo, denied he was involved in illegal drug activities.

The suspect, who also tested positive for illegal drug use, was detained at the Kalibo police station.

He is facing charges for violation of Article II, Section 5 (sale, trade and delivery of dangerous drugs) of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Section 2 of this law stresses, “It is the policy of the State to safeguard the integrity of its territory and the well-being of its citizenry particularly the youth, from the harmful effects of dangerous drugs on their physical and mental well-being, and to defend the same against acts or omissions detrimental to their development and preservation.”

Toward this end, the government is pursuing an intensive and unrelenting campaign against the trafficking and use of dangerous drugs and other similar substances through an integrated system of planning, implementation and enforcement of anti-drug abuse policies, programs, and projects./PN
