ILOILO – The province-wide convergence cleanup drive of the provincial government dubbed “Limpyo Iloilo” kicked off yesterday.
Local government units tasked residents whose homes are near the road to clean the portion of the road in front of their houses following the caravan.
The massive cleanup was participated by 42 towns and one component city, national government agencies, the academe, and the business sector.
According to Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr., this campaign aims to inculcate among Ilonggos the habit of keeping the roadsides, plazas, waterways, and over-all surroundings free of garbage.
Through “Limpyo Iloilo” he wanted the province to have a “clean province identity.”
He underscored the importance of cleanliness in addressing not only “visual pollution” but also curbing the spread of communicable diseases.
To recall, Defensor issued Executive Order No. 300 for the program’s implementation.
The initiative is deploying the “3Ps Strategy” (Pagkaon, Pag-istorya kag Pag-gamit cellphone).
It echoes the regulation of the Land Transportation Office that prohibits eating and unnecessary conversation while inside moving vehicles, Defensor said./PN
