BACOLOD City – The 45th edition of the MassKara Festival was generally peaceful and successful despite the torrential rains brought by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, according to the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO).
Colonel Joeresty Coronica, the city police director, said the BCPO takes pride to announce a significant achievement in its law enforcement and public safety measures allowing thousands of residents and visitors to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere, as it recorded a zero-crime incident across all festival sites throughout the 17-day festivities.
BCPO units worked closely with the Regional Task Group MassKara headed by Brigadier General Jack Wanky, director of the Police Regional Office-6 (PRO6), and other partner agencies.
“Through a collaborative planning and close coordination with the local government unit (LGU) and the Bacolod Yuhum Foundtion, enhanced police visibility, efficient crowd management and firm implementation of the rules and regulations of the festival, BCPO effectively deterred criminal activities, ensuring a safe environment for both residents and tourists,” Coronica added.
Due to BCPO’s relentless operations during the festival, its campaign against illegal drugs was equally successful.
From October 1 to October 27, the city police arrested 55 drug suspects.
The anti-illegal drug operations also resulted to the confiscation of around 4,867.39 grams shabu valued at approximately P33,097,258.
“We attribute this year’s success to the unwavering support of our community and stakeholders, as well as the commitment of our police officers who worked tirelessly round the clock,” Coronica said.
He added, “To those who have helped Bacolod City LGU and BCPO in ensuring a peaceful MassKara celebration, my heartfelt thanks for your commitment and dedication to your respective mandates. Collectively, we have done a great job. Kudos to everyone!”/PN
