ILOILO – Central Philippine University (CPU) Golden Lions kicked off its campaign in the 7’s Football League Iloilo Season 2 with a 13-1 thrashing of S Club 7 F.C. at the West Visayas Statute University Football Field here yesterday.
Barotac Nuevo’s Jed Delariarte spearheaded the onslaught for the Golden Lions with seven goals, while his brother Jan Bernard Delariarte chipped in four strikes.
Andre Lopez and Jarlson Roy Derutas contributed a goal each for CPU. Russel Sodusta, meanwhile, was the lone scorer for S Club 7.
The defending title holder, Western Institute of Technology (WIT) Men’s Football Team, on the other hand, cruised to a 7-2 victory over Dyes Kantos F.C.
Striker Celso Orquina Jr. bannered Western Tech by converting two goals, while his teammates Karl Lester Alemane, Robert Blance, Ramon Cepida, Myles Adrian Consular, and John Robert Solen contributed a goal each.
Kenneth Tuzon was the lone wolf who fired two goals for Dyes Kantos F.C. in a losing effort.
Meanwhile, Bagwis F.C. survived a 4-3 scare over Panthers F.C. via goals from Rogelio Lopez, Rich John Cabuday, Sidney Lavente and Ember Lavente.
Camp Peralta F.C. also opened its campaign with a 2-0 victory over Ilonggo United F.C. Jason Mark Escala’s 21st minute strike and EJ Laurino’s 43rd was enough to bag the three points.
In the women’s event, Santa Barbara Locals F.C. escaped with a match-thrilling 7-6 victory over CPU Golden Lions, Ilonggo United walloped Camp Peralta F.C., 5-1 and Janiuay F.C. edged Jaro F.C., 3-2.
The 7’s Football League is a 7-aside football tournament that originated in Manila. Its second season in Iloilo features nine teams from the men’s category and six in the women’s.
Match Week 2 of the tournament will be on Feb. 29 starting with Janiuay F.C. versus WIT./PN
