BACOLOD City – Mayor Emmanuel Aranda of Binalbagan, Negros Occidental was charged for punching a man at the municipal hall.
Public transport and civil society leader Dionisio Encinares lodged less serious physical injury and grave threat charges at the Provincial Prosecutors’ Office.
Encinares claimed Aranda punched and threatened to shoot him during a meeting at the latter’s conference room.
The mayor admitted punching Encinares over what he claimed to be an offensive statement the latter posted on Facebook but denied threatening to shoot the member of the Local Poverty Reduction Action Team.
Encinares filed the complaint on Oct. 24.
On Friday Aranda said he will file a counter-complaint but did not say when.
Prompted by “too much anger,” the mayor attacked Encinares on Oct. 11.
“Kon ikaw isa ka mayor, hambalon ka nga gago ka nga klase mayor kag gin-post pa sa Facebook,” said Aranda.
He said Encinares posted, “Gago nga mayor, pahulat-hulat, daw waay man gihapon. Maayo guro sa mayor na patulugon.”
The mayor denied threatening to shoot Encinares. “Indi ina amo. Siguro tapungulon ko lang sia, pero ngaa tiruhon ko pa gid?”
Encinares claimed he only posted about transport problems left unaddressed. “Halin 2012 nga problema, wala ma-solbar.”/PN
