Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas is currently waiting for the decision of Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. in regards to closing borders with the province of Negros Occidental.

In an interview with Aksyon Radyo Iloilo this morning, Treñas said that he had discussed the matter with Bacolod City Mayor Evelio “Bing” Leonardia, Governor Eugenio Jose “Bong” Lacson and Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. yesterday.

However, Gov. Defensor, Jr. has yet to give his final decision, noting that the Iloilo province still needs to review all COVID-19 cases.

Treñas said that borders will close right the next day once Defensor, Jr. agrees to the decision.

Treñas hopes that the border closing will stem the rise in cases within Iloilo City, as he cites rising numbers of infected in Negros Occidental.

“Nakalab-ot sila mga 200 to 300 kis-a,” says Treñas. “Daw may worry lang kami ni guv basi magsaylo-saylo naman, and one week man lang…, sugod bwas para lang makapreparar man kita. During this week we will have identified more quarantine facilities kag iban pa nga requirements para nga plastado.”/PN
