SAN JOSE, Antique – A nongovernment organization has served 48 poor children with cleft palate and cleft lip during a Medical and Surgical Mission at the Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital from Oct. 24 to 28.
Medical Mission Matters provided pre- and post-operative medicines, medical supplies, and anesthetic agents required for pre- and post-operation care, said James Rubino, information officer for the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO).
It also shouldered the patients’ transportation and meals.
The provincial government, through the PSWDO and the Provincial Disability Affairs Office, identified the patients.
The hospital and the Provincial Health Office, on the other hand, provided the needed workforce and facilities.
The plastic surgeons Dr. Leah Victorio and Dr. Laurence Frederik Tumaneng and the anesthesiologists Dr. Claire Mazo and Dr. Hedwig Reyeg compose the Medical Mission Matters team.
Medical Mission Matters Philippines, under the founder Laurence “Larry” Mally, has undertaken 13 medical missions and more than 600 operations across Panay Island since November 2014.
It served poor children with facial deformities, particularly cleft palate and cleft lips, said Rubino. (PIA/PN)
