ILOILO City – The recent surge in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases here were mostly students from a medical school who were required to undergo swab test prior to their face-to-face classes.

According to Mayor Jerry Treñas, from the initial 10, the cases climbed to at least 20.

The close contacts of these students also tested positive.

“We are among the very few cities nga ang mga close contacts sang mga nag-positive gina-test naton…Maayo man ina siguro kay gina-quarantine dayun,” said Treñas.

Most of these medical students are now on strict home quarantine.

As of June 18, Iloilo City had a total of 100 active cases of COVID-19.

Treñas said Iloilo City is ready in case of a COVID-9 surge will continue.

The Iloilo City Modular Hospital has no patient yet while there were only two patients at the city’s COVID-19 Quarantine Facility in Barangay So-oc, Arevalo district, said Treñas.
