Medical waste found inside Murcia cemetery

BACOLOD City – Medical waste was discovered scattered at the Murcia Public Cemetery in Murcia, Negros Occidental on November 1, allegedly originating from the municipal health center.

According to reports, the said medical waste was improperly disposed of in the health center’s septic tank located within its premises. Heavy rainfall might have exacerbated the situation, causing cardboard and plastic containers used for disposing medical waste to become dislodged.

Upon learning of the situation, the health center promptly covered the exposed waste with tarpaulins.

Meanwhile, while cleaning a part of the cemetery a man encountered a used syringe and accidentally came into contact with it. Despite wearing gloves, he was immediately checked and received an anti-tetanus injection.

In an interview with Sanitary Health Inspector Ryan Bueno-onda, he said that measures will be taken to address the improper medical waste disposal to prevent similar incidents in the future. (Watchmen Daily Journal)/PN
