MANILA – Negrense Camelo Tacusalme and Ilonggo Jan Jesus Melliza were among those called up to join the Philippine Azkals’ training pool ahead of two matches later this month.

Tacusalme, who plays for Kaya Iloilo in the Philippines Football League, will be on his second tour of duty with Azkals after being called up in the Philippine team’s 1-8 loss to China in 2017.

Melliza, a native of La Paz, Iloilo City, will be making his return to the national men’s football team after being called up by head coach Thomas Dooley last year for the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 Qualifiers game against Yemen.

Veterans Phil and James Younghusband, Manny and Mike Ott, Jeffrey Christiaens, Carlos de Murga, Patrick Reichelt, Simone Rota, Patrick Deyto, Kevin Ingreso, and Paul Mulders were also part of the training pool.

Other players in the Azkals roster were Fitch Arboleda, Dylan de Bruycker, Jim Junior Muñoz, Nicholas O’Donnell, Sean Kane, Angelo Marasigan, Tyler Matas, and Dennis Villanueva.

Also tapped were foreign-based players Stephen Palla, Javier Patino, Iain Ramsay, Daisuke Sato, Neil Etheridge, Michael Falkesgaard, Hikaru Minegishi, and Misagh Bahadoran.

Dooley was expected to select players from the pool in coming up with the lineup for their friendly against Fiji on Thursday and their final AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers game against Tajikistan on March 27.

Azkals will need a draw in their match against Tajikistan at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium to punch a ticket to the continental showpiece event next year in the United Arab Emirates./PN
