BACOLOD City – Non-government organization Project CARES leads the commemoration of the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims in Negros Occidental today.
This is the 11th year that Project CARES, the focal organization recognized by the United Nations (UN) Road Safety Collaboration Program in the Philippines, is celebrating the global road safety and injury prevention program.
It has adopted the Barangay Villamonte Rescuers / Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council as recipient and program partner.
The rescue group will receive reflective vests donated by the family of DUI (driving under the influence) victim Darren Price of Ireland through Donna Price of the Ireland Road Victims Association (IRVA). They will also be given insurance coverage.
Other activities include a memorial mass for road traffic victims at Our Lady’s Chapel in Gonzaga Subdivision at 8:30 a.m.
It will be followed by the visiting of the Road Safety Memorial Tree at the Provincial Capitol Lagoon and Park for solemn remembering rites, which will include a moment of silence, candle lighting, inter-faith prayers, and floral offering.
Project CARES has also invited families and friends of road traffic victims to enlist the names of their loved ones in the Road Victims Memorial Registry.
The organization’s road safety and injury prevention campaign initiatives are dedicated to Bacolodnon Augustus Altarejos and all other road traffic crash victims worldwide. (PNA)
