MANILA – Mendiola FC 1991 finally scored its maiden victory in the 2019 Philippines Football League after a 3-1 decision over the Philippine Air Force FC on Sunday at the Binan Football Stadium in Binan, Laguna.
Veterans Hamed Hajimahdi, Alem Angeles and Jim Ashley Flores delivered a goal each as the Mendiola 1991 finally tasted a victory in the tournament for four points after six games.
Mendiola 1991 took the advantage early on with Hajimahdi eluding his defenders for a three minute conversion. They have plenty of opportunities to add up to the lead but unable to penetrate the defense for a 1-0 halftime edge.
Mendiola 1991 became successful in adding up to its lead in the second half with Angeles nailing one at the 58th minute before Flores had his own conversion for the Mendiola 10 minutes later.
The Philippine Air Force, meanwhile, made sure that they will not go home empty handed with Romeo Martinez caught the Mendiola 1991 defense napping at the 86th minute.
With the defeat, the Philippine Air Force remained at deadlast in the standings with just a point to show after seven matches./PN
