MANILA – Mendiola FC 1991 banked on a strong first half to pull off a 5-2 victory over Green Archers United FC in the 2019 Philippines Football League at the PFF National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.
Jim Ashley Flores spearheaded the upset with a hat trick on Wednesday, while Cameroonian Souleyman Mbouombouo Neope and Mar Vincent Diano added a goal each for Mendiola.
It was the second victory of Mendiola following their 3-1 victory over the Philippine Air Force FC, to move up to fifth place in the standings with seven points, on two wins, one draw and five losses.
Flores got it going for the Mendiola early in the match with conversions at the seventh and 15th minute.
It grew to 4-0 just
before the halftime break with hits from Neope and Diano.
The lead grew further for Mendiola in the second
half with Flores completing his hat trick at the 53rd minute.
The Green Archers got
two consolation goals from Paolo Bugas and Fredy Mbang.
With the stunning defeat, the Green Archers
United failed to tie Stallion Laguna FC at No. 3 (17 points) as they remained
in the fourth spot with 14 points on four wins, two draws and four losses./PN
