ILOILO City – A man believed to be suffering from a mental illness was tagged in the killing of his father in Barangay East Villaflores, Maayon, Capiz.
The 27-year-old Mark Dordas is now detained at the municipal police station of Maayon.
He was arrested hours after two young relatives claimed he hit his 59-year-old father Francisco with a hard object on the head on Saturday night.
The crime happened at around 9:30 p.m. at the Dordas house, according to Inspector John Gammad, Maayon police chief.
The suspect’s two young relatives, both minors, witnessed the crime, said Gammad. They fled after Mark moved toward them, he added.
The two minors sought the help of a neighbor, Analinda Llamas.
Police launched a manhunt after having been informed of the crime, and arrested Mark. They, however, failed to recover whatever it was that was used to hit Francisco on the head.
Francisco was declared dead at the Bailan District Hospital.
Mark denied attacking his father. He also denied they had a tiff prior to the incident.
“Based on our initial investigation, the suspect and his father often quarreled. Umaalis na lang ang tayay n’ya kapag may alitan sila kasi sinasaktan n’ya tatay n’ya. Pero hindi n’ya inamin kasi parang wala sa sarili,” Gammad told Panay News./PN
