Metropac-San Beda score 2 wins in PBA D-League

MANILA – Metropac-San Beda Red Lions cruised to its second straight win in 2019 PBA D-League after taking down Wangs Basketball Couriers, 94-70, on Thursday night at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

Calvin Oftana tallied 17 points and seven rebounds, Evan Nelle chipped in 11 points, seven assists, and six boards, while James Canlas contributed 10 points for the Red Lions (2-0).

From a tightly-contested first half, the Red Lions started to gain control of the match in the third quarter behind Oftana, Nelle and Donald Tankoua as they build a 68-57 advantage.

Oftana then orchestrated Red Lions’ 13-2 scoring run at the onset of the final quarter as it grabbed an 81-59 advantage with 5:44 in the game following a reverse layup by Peter Alfaro.

Axel Inigo captained the Couriers with 21 points, four rebounds, four assists, and two steals, as Gelo Vito had 15 points and seven rebounds in the loss. Wangs Basketball dropped to 1-1 in the standings.

Meanwhile, Batangas-Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals easily dispatched McDavid in a wire-to-wire 79-57 victory to finally barge into the win column after two games.

The Generals went on a 12-0 start and rode the hot hands of Earvin Mendoza, who buried three triples to fire 25 points, three assists, and two rebounds and guided the Generals to their first win of the tourney.

Clark Derige contributed 16 points and four rebounds, while Allan Martin added 11 points, four dimes, and three boards in the win, giving Generals head coach Oliver Bunyi his first win at the helm./PN
