ILOILO bulk water supplier turned over a rainwater harvester to Sto. Angel Elementary School in Brgy. Sto. Angel, San Miguel, Iloilo on Nov. 22, 2019.
The school was Metro Iloilo Bulk Water’s (MIB’s) second beneficiary in San Miguel. Nine teachers and 22 students received the rainwater harvester with water equivalent to 600 liters.
As part of the program, Ms. Sheena Marie Relano Antonio and Engr. Ariel Jampayas Huyong explained some techniques on proper handwashing and educated the students on the importance of water conservation.
“This project will have great impact towards education through inculcating in children the proper methods of handwashing. The project will also have impact towards health, because handwashing helps prevent illnesses,” MIB chief operating officer Engr. Rolixto Jodieres Jr. said.
“Lastly, this project will also have impact towards environment through conserving water and minimizing the effects of drought and water shortage,” he added.
Sto. Angel’s only water source was not enough. They had to depend on rainwater in almost all their activities. When there’s no rain, the school had to fetch water from the nearest barangay.
This project of Metro Iloilo Bulk Water focuses on three key areas – education, environmental conservation and implementation. It aims to provide sustainability in the community by developing cost-effective alternatives to piped-in water supply, to educate Ilonggos about water conservation and proper handwashing and to collaborate with the public sector to implement key programs.
The turn-over rite and hand-washing activity was graced by MIB chief operating officer Engr. Rolixto Jodieres Jr. and Metro Iloilo Water District representatives, Human Resources Head Rafonsil Andrade and Officer in Charge- General Manager Janelle Manajero.
Also present at the ceremony were Kagawad Nith Cris Alcala, Parent-Teacher Association president Delna Portillo and the Principal of Sto. Angel Elementary School Sally Salaveria.
