Michelle Dee’s nat’l costume for Miss World 2019 revealed

MISS World Philippines 2019 Michelle Dee is currently in London for the Miss World preliminaries. On Dec. 9, the beauty queen revealed her national costume for the competition designed by Francis Libiran. It’s a Philippine terno called “The Philippine Sun Princess.”

“The design of the sun on the collar is inspired by the sun of the Philippine national flag, customized in Francis Libiran signature intricate Art Deco embroidery, which symbolizes optimism, positivity, and courage,” Michelle wrote on Instagram.

“The custom embroidery patterns are inspired by the historic Visayan tattoo called ‘Batek.’ They were found in the earliest illustrations of our Visayan warriors in the 16th-century Boxer Codex. To our ancestors, ‘Batek’ symbolized bravery and triumph.”

ICYMI, Michelle is the daughter of Miss International 1979 Melanie Marquez. 23-year-old Michelle was crowned Miss World Philippines on September 2019, and prior to revealing her official national costume, she flaunted Filipino fashion during the pre-pageant activities.

According to the Miss World website, the pageant’s 69th coronation night will take place on December 14, 2019, at the Excel Arena in London, United Kingdom. (Cosmo)
