ILOILO – Mayor Rey Grabato of Mina, Iloilo, his wife and personal driver tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
“Pero asymptomatic,” said the mayor on Friday.
The three immediately self-isolated upon learning the results of their reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction test released two days earlier.
According to the mayor, they may have contracted the virus at a wake in a village early this month.
“Sang Feb. 5 may napatay kami nga retired policeman nga inuglubong. Bilang mayor, obligasyon ko nga magbisita sa iya balay,” Grabato said.
Wary of a possible community transmission, he ordered the Municipal Health Office to rollout a thorough contact tracing.
As of Feb. 11, the town had a total of 18 COVID-19 cases – two of which were active and 16 recovered./PN
