ILOILO City ā Two minors on board a motorcycle were pinned by a truck that fell on them in Barangay Alimono, Passi City yesterday. One of the minors perished.
The 14-year-old RJ Aguilar died of internal bleeding, Passi City police station investigator Police Officer 2 Roderick Larida told Panay News.
Aguilar was pronounced dead at the Don Valerio Palmares Sr. Memorial District Hospital, also in Passi City.
His companion, 16-year-old Jemar Palma, was in critical condition. He was referred to the Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao district, said Larida.
Both Aguilar and Palma were residents of Barangay Magdungao, Passi City.
The incident happened at around 12:05 p.m.
āThe truck, which ferries sugarcane (it was already empty at the time), was negotiating down a narrow slope when it suddenly skidded toward the minors, who were heading upward,ā Larida told Panay News in a phone interview, citing initial investigation.
The two vehicles then fell around 5 meters off the roadside, said Larida.
It was not immediately clear who between the minors were driving the motorcycle.
Police identified the truck driver as 38-year-old Rey PatiƱo of Barangay Alimono, Passi City. He fled after the incident and remained at large as of this writing.
PatiƱo may face charges of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide, serious physical injuries, and damage to property./PN
