ILOILO City – A 17-year-old member of the Aeta community suffered injuries after being electrocuted and falling from an electric post on Delgado Street, City Proper district.
According to Captain Roque Gimeno III, officer-in-charge of the Iloilo City Police Station 1, the victim was identified as alias “Jude,” a native of Aklan but currently resides in Barangay Lanit, Jaro district.
Initial investigations revealed that the victim may have been under the influence of rugby, a solvent, which likely prompted him to climb the post and accidentally touch a live wire around 1 a.m. yesterday, November 19.
The Iloilo City Emergency Response Team provided immediate first aid at the scene before transferring the victim to a hospital for further treatment.
Meanwhile, residents in the area had reportedly warned the victim and others in the past about using rugby but noted that the activity continued despite repeated admonitions.
Following the incident, police reminded the public of the dangers of substance abuse and its potential life-threatening consequences./PN
