ILOILO –A 39-year-old man died. The motorcycle he was driving hit a stockpile in Barangay Dawis, Pototan town.
Sergio Borcillo of Barangay Barasan, Pototan was declared dead at the Iloilo Provincial Hospital, also in Pototan.
Borcillo was thrown off his motorcycle.
The victim tried to overtake another vehicle but hit the stockpile when he returned to his lane, police said.
Borcillo was bound for Pototan town proper from Iloilo City when he met the accident around 10:20 p.m. on Sept. 16.
He was driving an XRM 125 motorcycle (plate number 2868 FG).
It was unclear if there was a road sign warning motorists of the stockpile.
From January to July 2016, the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) recorded 2,095 traffic accidents.
During a recent road safety summit organized by the provincial government, one of the reasons cited for road accidents was the absence of street lights, road signage and other warning signs.
But “human error” mainly caused road mishaps, according to Senior Inspector Nemias Pamplona, IPPO’s deputy chief, Provincial Investigation and Detective Management Branch.
These “human errors” included reckless driving, uneducated driving and driving under the influence of liquor, said Pamplona./PN
