ROXAS City – A tanod (watchman) in Barangay Nagba, Cuartero, Capiz accused of stealing his neighbors’ chicken was shot to death.

Police staged a manhunt operation against the suspects: 50-year-old Joel Felipe and 20-year-old son Santos.

“It would be better for them to surrender,” stressed Senior Inspector Vallen Delos Santos, municipal police chief.

Danilo Dela Cruz died of multiple gunshot wounds at the Sen. Gerardo Roxas Memorial District Hospital.

An altercation happened between Dela Cruz and the Felipes when the latter confronted the drunken tanod around 9:30 p.m. on Monday, said Delos Santos.

Dela Cruz suddenly went outside his house and shouted, catching the attention of the father and son, who themselves had just finished drinking in their house with a neighbor, Genaro Mangubat.

Armed with short firearms, the Felipes went up to Dela Cruz and accused him of taking their missing chicken, said Delos Santos. “Minutes later, the Felipes fired at Dela Cruz several times and quickly left.”

Police brought Mangubat to their station but released him after finding out he had nothing to do with the crime./PN
