BACOLOD City – The fisherman from Cadiz City, Negros Occidental who went missing on Tuesday was found alive off the coast of Bantayan Island, Cebu province on Thursday, July 27.
Jolly Beating Jr., 33, of Barangay Cadiz Viejo, left Lakawon Island on Tuesday to deliver construction materials to Barangay Himoga-an Baybay in neighboring Sagay City.
According to authorities, as Beating returned around 4 p.m., his boat encountered rough waves and strong winds.
His boat’’s outrigger broke off, and he had to drop anchor to avoid drifting away.
Beating received a mobile phone call from his elder sister, Jonelyn, who immediately contacted the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
Beating said he saw the responding PCG and tried to signal them with a flashlight. However, due to poor visibility brought on by the inclement weather, rescuers were unable to get to his location.
The situation escalated when the anchor broke off and his boat drifted off.
After two days, Beating was finally found by local fishermen in Bantayan Island.
Arrangements are now being made for Beating to return home following the two-day ordeal. (Watchmen Daily Journal)
