Mobile vax drive for Bacolod vendors, drivers

BACOLOD City – This city is kicking off today its mobile vaccination against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) at three major markets here. Vendors and public transport drivers unable to leave their work for a day to go to vaccination centers are the target population.

Dubbed as “VAX-i”, the mobile vaccination drive aims to make vaccination more accessible to the public, according to Mayor Evelio Leonardia.

The “VAX-i” bus will drive around Bacolod with doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers on board.

The public is advised to follow the schedule:

* Libertad Market – 10 a.m. to 12 noon

* Central Market – 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

* Burgos Market – 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

In each area, the targets are 200 vaccinees.

“VAX-i” was launched yesterday at the Bacolod City Government Center “so we can achieve herd immunity and eradicate COVID-19 as fast as possible,” Leonardia said.

The mayor noted a steady decline in coronavirus infections these past two weeks, but he warned the public not to be complacent.

“While we welcome the decline at a time when cases are surging in other areas, we should not let our guard down because the pattern of COVID infections is unpredictable,” said Leonardia.

Latest data provided by City Administrator Em Ang, executive director of the Emergency Operations Center here, showed two-digit new cases in the last 14 days, averaging 36 cases per day.

In June this year, Bacolod was recording three-digit new cases daily, averaging 119 daily.

New cases slipped to 73 daily in July, Ang said./PN
